Fern-like Spermatophytes

Mariopteris beneckei (Fern-like Spermatophytes)

Fern-like Spermatophytes (Mariopteris beneckei) was very common in the Carboniferous period 310 million years ago. They grew probably 15 metres tall; many of them must have grown like lianas. We presume that this plant group, which already carried seed, was the predecessor of our seed-producing plants. It was extinct 220 million years ago.
