Riesenseelilien aus dem Posidonienschiefer im Saal "Erdgeschichte"

Giant Sea Lilies

The Giant Sea Lily is a member of the Echinodermata phylum lived approximately 180 million years ago in the Jurassic period. It was found in Posidonia shale, a type of rock extending over large areas of Central and North Western Europe. Lack of oxygen and decomposition processes at the bottom of the sea helped preserve the sea lilies and many other fossils. The sea lilies are one of the most beautiful groups of its kind ever found.
