The Devonian Hall is a collection room, housing the reference collection of the Preußische Geologische Landesanstalt (Prussian Geological Institute) in approximately 100 cabinets. The collection itself comprises around 400,000 items and is an important resource of unaltered collection material. It was collided by mapping geologists in the Rhenish Massif between 1880 and 1940 and contains rocks and fossils, which include mainly brachiopods, coral, seashells, snails and cephalopods. They have been sorted according to stratigraphical and geographical criteria.

Further Items of the Collection
Alongside the Devonian Collection, there are fifty further collection cabinets in the Devonian Hall. Some of them are filled with various suites of different fossils, e.g. Jurassic from Southern Germany and the Harz foothills, Westphalian Cretaceous, Alpine Triassic and Mesozoic bedload from the Berlin region.
