Digital reconstruction of the ribcage of Plateosaurus

The Spanish Fundación Conjunto Paleontológico de Teruel-Dinópolis has bestowed this year’s Award for Paleontological Research on MFN employee Dr. Heinrich Mallison. The vertebrate paleontologist won the award endowed with 4500 EUR for his 2010 research article "The digital Plateosaurus II: An assessment of the range of motion of the limbs and vertebral column and of previous reconstructions using a digital skeletal mount", published in Acta Palaeontologica Polonica. The jury lauded especially the critical analysis of previous reconstructions of the dinosaur Plateosaurus from Southern Germany, and the detailed illustrations. The Paleonturology Award was granted for the ninth time this year. The bestowal is linked to the condition that the awardee writes a version of the prize-winning publication for laypeople, which will be published by the foundation.
